The three types of outdoor flood lights are incandescent, compact fluorescent (CFL), and LED.
incandescent floodlight
This type of lighting is very basic in structure and operation. The quality of light emitted by incandescent bulbs is the better of the three types, especially in floodlights that project light over a large area. However, if you're after more diffused light, incandescent bulbs aren't ideal for you.
Even better than the light quality is that they are very cheap. This is a good thing since you'll be replacing them quite often since it's energy-intensive. This type of lamp is the most expensive to operate.
Compact Fluorescent Floodlights (CFL)
CFLs are more energy efficient and cost more than incandescent bulbs. It produces soft, warm light and uses most of its energy to produce light rather than heat. Even though you may pay more for the bulb, you can save up to 75% in energy costs compared to incandescent bulbs to produce the same amount of light. Considering that floodlights are typically used for several hours each night, this is a great saving. LED floodlights
Outdoor LED flood lights are best used for exterior lighting of a home or business. Due to the limited range of light, LED lights are nearly impossible to use to cover wide areas. However, improvements to their design have produced the required wider range of capacities, and LED floodlights are now available.
